The Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) is pleased to announce the
2007-08 VSGC Scholarship and Fellowship Program and related internship
opportunities. Program information including posters and applications for
the Scholarships/Fellowships can be downloaded from the VSGC website at
http://www.vsgc.odu.edu/. Information about a variety of VSGC sponsored
internships is also available on the website. A summary of programs is
attached.
VSGC sponsors 4 Scholarship and Fellowship programs. Descriptions and
deadlines for next year's program can be found below. Please distribute
this information to any students and faculty that may be interested.
Aerospace Graduate Research Fellowships are $5,000 renewable awards (up to
three years) of add-on graduate support for students enrolled at a Virginia
Space Grant university pursuing any field of graduate study (Masters or
Doctoral level) with aerospace relevance. Application deadline is February
5, 2007.
Aerospace Undergraduate Research Scholarships are one-year, non-renewable
support up to $8,500 for undergraduate students enrolled in a Virginia
Space Grant university pursuing any field of study with aerospace relevance
and actively engaged in a research project. Application deadline is
February 5, 2007.
Teacher Education Scholarships are $1,000 awards given to students enrolled
at a Virginia Space Grant university in a track that leads to teacher
certification in a pre-college setting. Priority is given to those
majoring in technology education, mathematics, or earth/space/
environmental science. Students may apply during their senior year of high
school or sophomore year in community college or in any undergraduate
college year. Application deadline is February 26, 2007.
Community College Scholarships are $1,500 awards made to students enrolled
at a Virginia community college, who have completed at least one semester
of coursework and are pursuing a program of study that includes coursework
related to an understanding of or interest in technological fields
supporting aerospace. Application deadline is February 26, 2007.

Positions Available:
Description of Position: NASA is seeking undergraduate students from diverse communities who are interested in a challenging research experience at a NASA center. Aligned with NASA's research and development mission, USRP provides students with a technical mentor and excellent hands-on experience. Students may apply for a 10-week summer session or a 15-week fall session. The student stipend payment is $5,000 for summer and $7,500 for fall. A round-trip travel allowance is also provided for students. The USRP seeks to extend and strengthen NASA's commitment to educational excellence and university research.
Requirements:
Must be classified as a rising junior or senior after Spring semester/quarter
U.S. Citizenship
Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0
Eligible fields of study are academic majors or demonstrated coursework or concentration in engineering, mathematics, computer science or physical/life science
Demonstrated strong interest/commitment to one of the above career fields or disciplines (e.g., science/math/engineering fairs, clubs or awards; tutoring/mentoring; internships or other related experience)
