
The function of the BSSF is to support faculty members in their various preparative needs.The functions are listed in approximate order of priority.
- Preparation of microbiological media, reagents, stains, and assisting in field oriented classes.
- Maintenance, subculture and/or preservation of microbial stock cultures utilized by the BSSF.
- Maintenance and scheduling of field vehicles.
- Procurement of supplies necessary to operate the BSSF.
- Accepting departmental deliveries and notifying faculty of such arrivals.
- Maintenance of glassware/chemicals/lab supplies utilized by the BSSF.
- Maintenance of equipment and laboratories utilized by the BSSF.
- Support of purchasing procedures adapted by department.
- Rectifying all departmental purchases with Accounts Payable.
Because of time, effort and space involved in fulfilling these functions, the BSSF CANNOT be utilized:
- To replace graduate teaching assistants or graduate research assistants.
- For the purpose of “setting up” a laboratory.
- For the purpose of running “dry labs”.
- For the purpose of doing research for faculty members.
- To run errands.
- As a stockroom (in Room 207).
