Minutes of Faculty Meeting
November 4, 2003
In attendance: Bill Lowden, Dick Gregory, Judy Bowman, Lytton Musselman, Frank Day, Roland Cooper, Bob Ratzlaff, Kent Carpenter, Kerry Kilburn, Keith Carson, Mark Butler, Nancy Wade, Wayne Hynes, Deborah Waller, Kneeland Nesius, Al Savitzky, Ian Bartol, John Holsinger, Jim Swanson, Barbara Hargrave, Andy Gordon, Bill Resetarits, and Milissa Story
Dick Gregory, Dean of the College of Sciences addressed the issue of Cynthia Jones transferring from Biological Sciences to Oceanography. He recently approved this move but he does not normally approve of this sort of moving between departments and will discourage it in the future. In response to a question, he indicated that he would work to get the position back.
Judy Bowman addressed the issue of grade forgiveness. Grade forgiveness is for undergraduate students only. Students may repeat a course and replace the first grade if the first grade was a C- or less. This is valid for ODU courses only. And the course has to be exactly the same, same course number and credits. A student can only use grade forgiveness one time; but everything will display on the transcript. It is removed from the GPA for graduation. There are no special forms; the change is applied automatically.
Bill Lowden (bookstore) discussed book ordering and the matter of selling individual components (CDs, workbooks) of a course “pack” individually as well as the bookstores philosophy on buying and reselling books. Unless specifically requested, the bookstore will not order the full number of books because students buy books off campus at local bookstores as well as on line.
The last faculty meeting of the semester is Tuesday 2 December 1230-1320 MGB 102. The tentative agenda will be posted soon. Minutes of the 3 November 2003 Faculty Meeting (Under Construction)
