Dr. Lesley H. Greene

Assistant Professor

Education::

Ph.D. in Biochemistry, University of Miami, Florida 1998
B.S. in Microbiology, University of Miami, Florida, 1991

Research Interests::

The question "how does an amino acid sequence encode a proteins corresponding three-dimensional structure?", also known as "the second-half of the genetic code", remains one of the most fundamental and unresolved problems in science today. The main goal of Dr. Greene's research is to elucidate the critical determinants governing protein evolution, structure, stability and folding. From an evolutionary perspective, her research group has endeavored to identify and study conserved features which she proposes are key to resolving this problem. Her research is hypothesis driven and her approach has been to combine computational and experimental methodologies in one unified effort.

The computational research involves the development and application of bioinformatics, molecular dynamics simulations and network principles to form the basis for hypotheses development and to facilitate the interpretation of experimental results. Her experimental approach utilizes modern methods in molecular biology and protein engineering as well as a range of state-of-the-art biophysical techniques including stopped-flow fluorescence, circular dichroism and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. She is committed to fostering creativity and to training our future scientists.
