Dr. Jennifer L. Poutsma
Associate Professor

Education:
Ph.D. Organic Chemistry, UCLA 1997
B.S. in Chemistry, University of Chicago, 1991
Teaching Responsibilities:
CHEM 211-213 Organic Chemistry
CHEM 212-214 Organic Chemistry Laboratory
CHEM 415/515 Intermediate Organic Chemistry
CHEM 725 Physical Organic Chemistry
CHEM 755 Computational Chemistry
Research Interests:
I am primarily interested in the application of computational methods to biological and organic systems. Problems which cannot be studied experimentally are investigated through computational means. A variety of methods are used including quantum mechanical calculations and molecular dynamics simulations. In particular, we are studying the mechanisms of Schmidt-type reactions, the binding cooperativity in R67 dihydrofolate reductase, the effect of modifications on protein nucleic acid binding to DNA or RNA and the properties of the dative bond in 2-aminoethoxydiphenyl borate. In addition, several small projects are being carried out in conjunction with experimental collaborators.
