Dr. Aron Stubbins

Assistant Research Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry
Assistant Director of the Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Marine Biogeochemistry, Newcastle University, 2001
  • B.S. in Marine Biology, Newcastle University, 1998

Research interests:

Aron Stubbins joined ODU as an Assistant Research Professor in March 2007, taking the position of Assistant Director of the Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium. As a member of VCERC he is working to develop carbon neutral, economically viable sustainable energy. His main research focus is on making biofuel from algae, in particular improving the energy and economic efficiency of algal growth, harvesting, and conversion to fuel.  A further component of Dr. Stubbins' research seeks to characterize and quantify the pools and processes within the global carbon cycle. His current NSF funded work focuses upon the cycling and molecular signatures of organic matter in the ocean.
