Applications are invited for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track) beginning Fall 2008 in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Old Dominion University. All applicants should have expertise in an area of applied and/or computational mathematics. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in applied or computational mathematics or a related field, an established funded research program, and excellent pedagogical and communication skills.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is one of seven Ph.D.-granting Departments in the College of Sciences and currently has 30 full-time faculty. A Center for Computational Science, in which the department plays a prominent role, has recently been established with funding from DOE, NSF, and NASA. Excellent collaborative research and educational opportunities are available at the NASA-Langley Research Center, the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC), and the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.
