The secret to success in math and chemistry is repetition, repetition, repetition. Do all of the homework assigned, not just the first few problems.
Focus on the task at hand, put aside any distractions to yourself or others (text messaging, YouTube, music, etc.)
Make sure you identify units of measurement; this is one of the areas where students lose the most points on homework and exams.
- Read the whole problem first determine what you are solving for and then write it down.
- Re-read the problem to identify what information may be needed to solve the problem.
- Label all information given with appropriate variables (i.e. letters)
- Set up the equation
- Solve the equation
- Answer the word problem! Sometimes merely solving the equation does not answer the question.
