| Dr. Swift holds a Slover Chair of Oceanography at Old Dominion University and has been designated Eminent Professor. He has been awarded the F. P. Shepard Medal for excellence in Marine Geology. His research interests include shallow marine sediments and sedimentary dynamics, and shallow marine stratigraphy at the event, facies and sequence stratigraphic scales. Dr. Swift and students are presently analyzing the depositional fabric of storm and flood beds of the Northern California Shelf (STRATAFORM Program, Office of Naval Research) by means of numerical modeling,, and the relationship of these facies to the sequence stratigraphic fabric as revealed by larger-scale numerical models. Dr. Swift and students are also analyzing the sedimentology, stratigraphy, and scales of heterogeneity in an experimental aquifer on the Eastern Shore of Virginia (NABIR Program, Department of Energy). In a third project, Dr. Swift and students are comparing autocyclic and allocyclic (Milankovitch) patterns of stratigraphic cyclicity in the Cretaceous Mesaverde Group of the Bighorn and Powder River basins, Wyoming (ODU funds; NSF funds applied for). |
