Spring 2008 Seminar Series

Dr. Michael Lomas

Abstract

It is now recognized that microbial diversity and function has an important role to play in the observed variability of marine biogeochemical cycles.  However, methods to generate quantitative rate estimates are few.  In this talk I'll present a relatively new method that combines flow cytometry and isotopic tracers, and two datasets showing the utility of this method to improve our understanding of the nitrogen and phosphorus biogeochemical cycles in the Sargasso Sea.
