Frank Batten, Sr., the owner of Landmark Communications (e.g., Virginian-Pilot, Weather Channel) is a major contributor to Old Dominion University. Fay Slover (1884-1967), Frank's aunt, was an avid sailor and sponsor of Old Dominion University's Department of Oceanography. The Batten family elected to have their reunion aboard R/V Fay Slover.
