New Chair Appointed for Physics Department

Dr. Gail E. Dodge was appointed as the new chair of the physics department on 1 August, 2005.

An ODU faculty member since 1995, her academic credits include a B.A. from Princeton University in 1986, a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1993, and postdoctoral research work at Free University, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

As an experimental nuclear physicist, Dr. Dodge's research is focused on understanding the angular momentum and excited states of the neutron.

With her appointment she assumes leadership of the department from Dr. Colm T. Whelan who will return to teaching and research on the physics faculty.
