Debra A. Major
Professor of Psychology
Ph.D., Organizational Psychology
Michigan State University
Dr. Major's program of research focuses on career barriers, especially for women, and effective strategies for overcoming them. Conflict between work life and other life domains is a major area of interest. Her research on this topic is aimed at understanding how individuals and organizations address work-family conflict through mechanisms such as preventive coping, effective role relationships, and accommodation seeking. She is also interested in the experiences of women in male-dominated STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields. Dr. Major has studied inclusive climate, fairness perceptions, and professional development opportunities. Her work in this area has been supported by National Science Foundation grants for the past decade. Dr. Major's research often requires multi-disciplinary collaborations with computer science, engineering, and other sciences.
Please see Dr. Major's website for additional information about her research and courses.
