The Jet Set Among Us

Professor Dennis Darby of the Department of Ocean, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences (OEAS) has some interesting (and fun) trips coming up soon. He has been invited to the Alaska Quaternary Center and Institute of Marine Science at the University of Alaska (March 7-15) for a series of talks on arctic research in paleoceanography as part of the University of Alaska's invited scholar seminar series. He has also been invited to the Science Advisory Committee for the Ocean Drilling Program (SCICOM) meeting in Shanghai, China (March 21-23) to present results on arctic deep-sea drilling. SCICOM is administered through the Joint Oceanographic Institutes (JOI). Darby is part of the subcommittee working to get JOI to consider a drilling expedition to the central Arctic Ocean near the North Pole. Look for more details on these trips in future issues.
