Welcome to the December Edition of Scire!
The fall semester ending is a time of flurry, forethought and fun around the college and university:
The Flurry (December 1 – 15)
Faculty prepare exams, grade papers and get grades posted;
Students finish projects or presentations and cram for finals;
Graduating students and families intertwine emotions on commencement day;
Holiday socials dot the calendar;
The Forethought (December 16 – 20)
Students ponder which classes to take for spring, getting new roommates, and balancing work with a new schedule;
Faculty juggle limited resources and try to keep projects going while short funded and short handed;
Staff simultaneously tie up lose ends from one semester as they wind up for the next one.
The Fun (December 21 – January 10)
Students spend quality time with friends and family without the stress of studying;
Faculty have the freedom to pursue all those things they’ve been putting off;
Staff enjoy the quieter time, decorate and look forward to the closing of the university (December 23 – January 1).
All hope for a better new year.
