Thinking Out of the Box Contest
Read and ponder these five questions and send your answers to Phyllis Brown at pbrown@odu.edu to be entered into the "Thinking Out of the Box" Contest. The individual who answers the most correctly will win either a $25 Barnes and Noble Gift Card OR a $25 Monarch Gift Card, winners choice. Enter before July 8th to be included.
- There is a low railroad trestle in your town. One day you see a large truck stopped just before the underpass. When you ask what has happened, the driver tells you that his truck is one inch higher than the indicated height of the opening. This is the only road to his destination. What can he do to get through the underpass the easiest way?
- Start with two pitchers, each half full of water. Can you put all of this water into a large pail, and be able to tell which came from which pitcher? You cannot use dividers or pitchers inside the pail.
- I have two coins that add up to $.55. One of them is not a nickel. What are the two coins?
- You have just tossed a coin that has come up heads for the tenth time in a row. What is the probability that it will come up heads the next time?
