Steps For Advising

Students are required to meet with an academic advisor every semester.  Select a major from the list below for advising contact information for your major:

If you are a new transfer student about to begin your first semester at ODU, please review our New Transfer Student Checklist for information on how to schedule advising for your first semester at ODU.

Before you meet with an advisor, you should create and save a tentative plan of classes for the next semester in DegreeWorks.  Review the curriculum sheet for your major and your DegreeWorks worksheet to help you create a tentative plan of the classes you would like to take next semester.  You must understand course prerequisite requirements in order to make a good plan; you should review the course descriptions in the University Catalog prior to your advising appointment to ensure that you are aware of any course prerequisite requirements.  You can also find prerequisite requirements in DegreeWorks by clicking on course numbers listed on your worksheet.  You will NOT be seen by an advisor without a saved plan in DegreeWorks.  Please print this out and bring it with you when you come in for advising.

Attend the advising session to discuss your academic goals and your tentative schedule for the next semester; the advisor will help you make any necessary changes to your plan and then remove your advisor block for the following semester.  If you schedule an appointment please arrive promptly; students who arrive more than 5 minutes late to an advising appointment will be asked to reschedule.
