A Word from the
Welcome to the College of Sciences Family!
This is an exciting time for you and your Old Dominion student. In the year to come, your son or daughter will face many new challenges as they transition into a higher academic setting.
The College of Sciences website is designed to give you an insight into some of those academic challenges. I am confident that you will find this information useful.
Research and practical experience tells us that there is a direct link between a student's first semester acclimation and their subsequent collegiate success. Habits, good or bad, developed during the first few weeks, often stay with students during their entire college experience.
As Associate Dean, one of my highest priorities is to assist your son or daughter in meeting these new academic challenges. My staff and I will do everything within our power to help your student successfully transition into college life.
Here is a copy of the College of Sciences Student Survival Guide, which provides tips for understanding how to be successful as a science major. This guide and our advising website serve as resources for you and your son or daughter to help achieve a successful transition to ODU.
In addition to the College of Sciences webpage, another important resource for you as the parent of an ODU student is the Family Connection website, run by the Office of New Student and Parent Programs.
I maintain an open-door policy, and I strongly encourage you to contact my staff or myself if you have any questions about the broad range of academic assistance available to your student. My office is located in Room 135 in the Oceanography & Physics Building, or you can telephone me at (757) 683-5201.
I look forward to working with your student during their studies here at Old Dominion University.
