Interested in Studying Abroad?
The College of Sciences strongly encourages its students to take advantage of the many study abroad opportunities that Old Dominion University has to offer. Studying abroad provides ODU students with the chance to gain international experience while earning academic credit that can be applied toward degree requirements. Students in the College of Sciences are particularly well suited to study abroad because of the large number of science courses offered by our partner universities and because of the international nature of science and scientific research.
ODU offers a variety of study abroad programs to allow you to find a program that fits your schedule and academic needs. Programs include:
Short term ODU faculty-led programs (offered during spring and summer breaks)
Semester/Year long programs
In addition to completing major requirements, students can also earn study abroad credit to satisfy Upper Division General Education requirements such as a minor or "Option D." It can also be possible to do internships or research abroad.
Steps to start your journey abroad:
Students can study abroad as early as their freshman year so it is important to plan ahead.
- First, you should attend one of the Office of Study Abroad's weekly Information Sessions.
- Next, students should sign up for an individual appointment with a study abroad advisor to discuss their interests in regard to academics, location, cost and timeline.
- Finally, after meeting with a study abroad advisor, students should also meet with their academic advisor to see how credits earned abroad will fit into their major course of study and satisfy ODU degree requirements.
