Grade Forgiveness Policy

Students at Old Dominion University can choose GRADE FORGIVENESS to replace the grade of any class in which a grade of C- or lower was earned.

Important Considerations:

  • Only the most recentlyearned grade will be computed in the GPA regardless of whether the most recent grade is higher or lower than the original grade.
  • All grades appear on a student's transcript, although only the most recent is calculated into the GPA.
  • Grade Forgiveness can only be used once for the same course.
  • The most recent GPA is used for determining continuance and graduation status but is NOT used for determining graduation with Honors and Dean's List.
  • Grade Forgiveness is automatic. If you register for a course for which you have already earned credit it is assumed that you are choosing the Grade Forgiveness option.

You should consult your advisor prior to taking a class for grade forgiveness, retaking a class may delay your graduation.
