The “Spotlight’s on Who?” Contest Winner for January

AND the Spotlight is on…

Dr. Joseph H. Rule, associate dean and professor of ocean, earth and atmospheric sciences.

Dr. Rule then...
Dr. Rule now!

Joseph H. Rule, Associate Dean, received his BS in Agriculture in 1967 and M.S. in Agronomy (Soils, minor in Geology) in 1970 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and his Ph.D. in Agronomy (Soils) in 1972 at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He spent one year as a Post Doctorate Fellow at the University of Missouri Trace Substances Research Center in Columbia and two years as a visiting Assistant Professor of Geological Sciences at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville before joining Old Dominion University in 1976. He has taught introductory Geology, Environmental Geology, Soils and various Geochemistry courses. He served as Graduate Program Director, Assistant Chair and Chair of Geological Sciences prior to becoming a member of the Department of Ocean, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences. His primary area of research interest concerns trace element biogeochemistry in the environment with special focus on trace metal contamination of soils, sediments and biota. Dr. Rule’s most current research is related to the use of herbaceous plants as phytomonitors of environmental contamination and the potential for remediation of polluted soils using higher plants.
