College of Sciences Newsletter Edition 12 May 1, 2002


The Year in Review

The College of Sciences held its final college meeting on April 5th with Dr. Andrew Gordon, professor and chair of the Department of Biological Sciences, chairing it.




Dr. Michael Doviak, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, reported on the Strategic Task Group on Mathematics and Computer Literacy.






Dr. Joseph Rule, Associate Dean, gave the status of proposed Ph.D. programs.






Dr. John Adam, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, presented “Mathematical Patterns in Nature: Encouraging Students to Think about Mathematical and Physical Principles Underlying Many Natural Phenomena.”






Dr. Margaret Mulholland, Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, presented “Cycling of Organic Nitrogen and Carbon in Coastal and Oceanic Ecosystems.”






Tom Isenhour, Dean, presented a plaque to Andrew Gordon in appreciation of his six years as chairperson for the Department of Biological Sciences.



Flowers were given Gordon’s wife, Elaine, in appreciation for her role in his being such a successful department chair.





President Roseann Runte made some brief remarks and opened the floor to questions.









College meetings are held several times a year and are open to faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends. Meeting dates and themes for the coming 2002-2003 academic year will appear in this newsletter early fall semester.
