Math Chair Named

Dr. J. Mark Dorrepaal, Associate Professor, is the new chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Dorrepaal, who joined the Faculty in 1976, has been serving as Acting Chair during the past academic year. Before coming to Old Dominion, he held a one-year postdoctoral position at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Dorrepaal earned a B.Sc. degree from the University of Windsor in 1971, an M.Sc. from the University of Toronto in 1972 and a Ph.D., also from the University of Toronto, in 1975.
His research interests include classical fluid mechanics, Stokes flow, Oseen flow and asymptotic analysis.
As a hobby, he dabbles in Game Theory and has communicated with Major League Baseball on their scheduling algorithms. He teaches an adult Sunday School class at Grace Bible Church in Virginia Beach. He and his wife, Jo Ann, have three adult children and live in the Larchmont section of Norfolk.
