Student Organizations in the College of Sciences
The College of Sciences has several university-recognized student organizations that serve as a wonderful place to learn about career opportunities, forge friendships, serve chosen profession, make contacts and have fun.
Here is a listing of the College of Sciences student organizations:
Biology Graduate Student Organization (BGSO)
Department of Biological SciencesBGSO serves as the official organization representing the graduate students in the Department of Biology. It selects students to serve on department committees (Budget and Operations, Seminar, Curriculum), assists in organizing the Graduate Student Orientation Seminar and serves as the official liaison between the graduate students and faculty in departmental matters. Department of Biological SciencesTriBeta is the biology undergraduate research society that meets twice monthly. Its programs and speakers are geared to target those undergraduates who are interested in a career involving biological research. TriBeta is in the process of creating a web site.

American Chemical Society (ACS) student affiliates
Department of Chemistry and BiochemistryThe ACS student chapter at Old Dominion University is open to those who are interested in chemistry. It is an active group that sponsors such events as the Pie-A-Professor Day on campus each year. For more information, contact them at odu_acs@yahoo.com.

Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) Student Chapter
Department of Computer ScienceThe ACM intent is to increase knowledge of the science, design, development, construction, languages and applications of modern computing. It also provides a means for communication among persons having an interest in computing machinery. Each year the department sends two teams of three students each to the Mid Atlantic Regional of the ACM World Wide Programming Contest.

Student Physics Society (SPS) at Old Dominion University
Department of PhysicsMembership in the SPS Chapter is open to all persons interested in physics. This chapter is an active one. SPS sponsors the annual Pumpkin Drop, and participates in the Children’s Festival at Town Point Park each year. ODU Student Chapter of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society
Department of PsychologyOld Dominion University offers a Ph.D. in Industrial Organizational Psychology, specializing in Human Factors Engineering. The HFES supports a wide variety of interests with regard to Human Factors research. The HFES meets once a month. Psi-Chi
Department of PsychologyPsi Chi is the National Honor Society in psychology, founded in 1929 for the purpose of encouraging, stimulating and maintaining scholarship in, and advancing the science of, pscyhology. Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate psychology students. Undergraduate requirements are listed on the application and following the application is a questionnaire inquiring about personal involvement and ideas. The ODU chapter is extremely active, open to new ideas and welcomes new members.

Association of Psychology Students (APS)
Department of PsychologyThe APS is open to anyone (psychology or other majors) interested in psychology. APS is involved in a number of projects in conjunction with Psi Chi and is a great opportunity for students to interact with the psychology department faculty, to participate in fundraisers and social events or to serve on a variety of committees.
