Interim Dean Named

Joseph H. Rule, associate dean of the College of Sciences, has been named interim dean of the college following Thomas Isenhour’s appointment as provost.

Rule has served as associate dean since 1995 and was chair of the department of geological sciences just prior to joining the Dean’s Office. He also served as graduate program director of the geophysical sciences department and assistant chair. He joined Old Dominion in 1976 as an assistant professor of geophysical sciences. In 1991, he was named a Fulbright scholar, lecturing in environmental sciences at Marie Curie Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland. In 1994, he compiled his Fulbright lecture notes into a book, “Topics in Environmental Sciences,” which was published in a bilingual version in Poland.

Rule has been active in many committees including the University Advisory Committee on Technology where he was chair of the E-Learning subcommittee. His accomplishments and contributions to the college include overseeing the revision of the college’s web pages, the publication of the college’s graduate handbook and the preparation of the College of Sciences’ Strategic Plan.
