Duke Psychiatry Professor Spoke On Pain Management Friday

Francis Keefe, professor of psychiatry and behavioral science at Duke University gave a lecture on April 2, on the "Psychology of Persistent Pain: Current State of the Science." This is part of the ODU Department of Psychology Colloquium.

Keefe has written more than 100 papers on the field of cognitive-behavioral therapy over the past 15 years. His program of research has focused on the use of cognitive-behavioral methods for the assessment and management of pain behavior, pain coping strategies and negative pain-related thoughts. He is currently studying the use of pain coping skills training, with and without exercise training, in an National Institutes of Health supported study of patients with fibromyalgia. Keefe's work on cognitive behavioral interventions, behavioral observation and coping strategies is recognized both nationally and internationally.
