| Back to College News The Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Old Dominion University will host junior, senior and teen sea camps for children ages 6 to17 beginning June 21. Old Dominion staff members will lead students through both classroom activities and firsthand experiences to explore and discover marine life in and around local waters. At the Junior Sea Camp, children ages 6 to 8 will go on daily trips to marshes and beaches, a trip to the Eastern Shore and a two-hour boat ride to collect specimens in and around Rudee Inlet. Campers ages 9 to12 in the Senior Sea Camp will engage in more in-depth study of marine life by collecting and handling specimens, doing field studies, taking a trip to the Eastern Shore and learning how to maintain species in a classroom aquarium. Teen Sea Camp for ages 13-17 will provide more in-depth involvement in field and laboratory activities, including fish dissections, a kayak excursion, sampling on the Eastern Shore, and an outing on ODU's research vessel Fay Slover. All camps wrap up their week with a visit to the Virginia Marine Science Museum. Classroom activities will take place in the Oceanography and Physics Building on the ODU campus. Sea camps run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost for junior and senior camps is $185 per week. The sea camp for teens is $195 per week. A 5 percent discount will be given for a family with two or more campers who register at the same time.
