| Back to College News Rule Assumes Position Of Interim Dean Of The College Of SciencesJoseph H. Rule assumed the position of interim dean of the College of Sciences on Sept. 15, when Richard Gregory's resignation as dean and appointment as chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry became effective. Rule has appointed C. Michael Overstreet, associate professor of computer science, as interim associate dean.  The new interim dean has served as associate dean since 1995 except for serving as interim dean from January to August 2003, just prior to Gregory's hiring. Before joining the dean's office, Rule was chair of the geological sciences department and also served as graduate program director of the geophysical sciences department and assistant chair. He joined ODU in 1976 as an assistant professor of geophysical sciences. In 1991, he was named a Fulbright scholar, lecturing in environmental sciences at Marie Curie Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland. In 1994, he compiled his Fulbright lecture notes into a book, "Topics in Environmental Sciences," which was published in a bilingual version in Poland. Rule has been active in many committees including the University Advisory Committee on Technology and Graduate Administrators Council. Overstreet, who came to ODU in 1984, has served as graduate program director for computer science. He has authored or co-authored more than 80 refereed journal and conference articles on simulation and software engineering, and held visiting appointments at the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Iizuka, Japan, and the Fachhochschule fur Technik und Wirtschaft in Berlin.
