NewsNEW STAFF IN THE COLLEGE OF SCIENCESValerie DeCosta- Chemistry and Biochemistry. Graduate Program and Grants AssistantI have been working at ODU since 1986 as a secretary. I first began part-time work in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and worked there for ten years. Next I worked full time in the College of Arts and Letters in the Political Science & Geography Department for several years, and then switched to the Communication and Theatre Arts Department for several years. After that I went to the College of Education and worked in the Teacher Education Department for about a year. Now I am in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (since Mar. ’07). I am originally from Stoughton, Massachusetts (a small town 20 miles south of Boston). I have three grown children and two grandchildren. Two of my children live here in Virginia, the oldest son lives in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania (and attends a local college there). My other two children attended ODU. Shannon Eggers- Computer Science. Fiscal Technician Jenny Morton- Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium. Office Manager C.J. Oakley- Physics Instructional Support Manager ![]() C. J. Oakley was born and raised in the foothills of Tennessee. After high school he joined the Navy, in which he served for 26 years, retiring in 2003 at the enlisted rank of Command Master Chief. After advanced training as a weapons system computer technician, he served on numerous ships and became an expert in mainframe/desktop computer maintenance and management. In 1998 he was selected to serve as Senior Instructor, Tactical Data Systems, Dam Neck, Virginia where he managed 110 instructors and over 600 students in 26 pipeline courses of instruction. Prior to joining the staff at Old Dominion, he held the position of Traffic Court Manager /LAN Administrator, Virginia Beach General District Court. Dana Oblak- College of Sciences. Business and Public Relations Manager ![]() Dana worked for the Department of Ocean, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences (formally oceanography) for 15 years before taking her new position as Business and Public Relations Manager in the College. Andrea Stephens-College of Sciences. Secretary Senior ![]() Andrea R. Stephen started working at ODU in August of 1994. She began working for the Department of Institutional Advancement as an Office Services Specialist. She has also been working on her B.S. degree in Communications and plans to graduate in May of 2008. She started working in the College of Sciences in April 2007, as the assistant to the dean in the College of Sciences Steve Urick- Biology. Orchid Greenhouse
